2010 Wheat Harvest, Part I.

So we went ahead and cut some wheat.

It was pretty exciting.
It didn't take long to have our first breakdown :/

So a trip to town for bolts and we were back in business.

And so it was back to the truck for me.
While Dad and Levi took care of the field.

It almost rained again.
We started Rod's the next day, but didn't get too far before we had breakdown #2. I wonder if we should change the sickle guards this time? Nah.

And so we were back at it with a new sickle bar.

Sunday was nice so we decided to cut a little... (one of the perils of doing custom work.) Luckily there are no lines for the heathen at the elevator:

Unfortunately stupidity does not carry the same perks as heathenism.

So that evening I did some scavenging...

And made another new sickle bar.

And went to town in the morning for new sickle guards. Finally.

There were a couple of stubborn old ones...
And then back together with the new sickles on the old sickle bar.

And then I had time for a quick "howdy!" to Anna.

We made it most of the day until it decided to rain on Devore's. It very nearly rained at the farm proper too.

The next morning we hiked in to get the combine and tractor (we just left Swheatie.)

And roaded them out...

...and all the way over to the Gray Havens.

The Gray Havens yielded about half of the rest of the dryland, which you and I saw coming. That gave me time to run over and change water Over East. We were finally done watering wheat, 5 days into wheat harvest.

So the next day we roaded all the way back over to Devore's and finished up. And so it was time start cutting seed. Which means combine clean out time.

Looks like we're finally getting some gas and water lines laid to the new well.

Good times.

It was also time to implement some phone call prompted changes in procedure.
