Hail

Let's see... Friday morning the 23rd I went to survey the hail damage from the day before. It wasn't so bad. I started to think about a post involving the phrase "a good hail," which is something that happens sometimes in the middle of a big ol' drought like the one we are in.

But then Friday afternoon we had another storm move through.

It made for a good rainbow,
but it was NOT a good hail.
The biggest divot in the ground here was about ping pong ball size.
The wheat does look better this week, maybe only 10-20% damage.

As per linda jean's request, we were able to do a little observation on hail effects on baby corn.
Before...

And one week later. You can see the tattered leaves in the picture below. They don't recover, but there are plenty of new ones to take their place.

You know its funny, but we have been discussing what a great thing the two hail storms in town have been for the local economy. Every empty office space in town is now occupied by some roof contractor or mobile dent repair operation. The restaurants are busy in the evening 'cause of all the workers... Car sales are up...
It's nice to get some of that insurance money back into circulation.
